As Lee sat on the airplane headed for the baseball game he had had to cover for the newspaper, the days events wouldn’t escape his mind. He went over every detail carefully. From the moment Laci jumped into the leaf pile for what he thought was just some innocent fun, to the confrontation later between Laci, Erin and Lee. He remembered how she apologized and pleaded for her job in an almost scripted way. He came to the conclusion that he should have been more firm about the whole thing and perhaps insisted that Laci be terminated. Erin wasn’t there to see how desperate Laci was when she revealed her feelings for him. The look in her eyes made him feel nervous at one point and he knew she was very serious about what she was revealing. Erin’s idea that it was simply a harmless crush may have been a premature judgment since she wasn’t actually present for the crazy confrontation.

After some time had past, Anthony was really enjoying his position as chef and manager of Ye Olde Tea Shoppe. He had more time to spend with his family and even some spare time for himself to enjoy his hobbies. His marriage was on the mend and he was feeling like Monica might be feeling better as well. He never realized before they were married what an incredibly moody and easily depressed person she could be.

In the previous chapter “Erin and the crazed nanny”, Lee was pondering the decision of whether to tell Erin about the romantic advances put upon him by Laci, the delusional live in nanny. He wondered whether she could be dangerous or whether it was just a harmless crush. He thought Erin might even laugh at him, or worse yet she may think that he may have initiated it. He felt he had been firm enough with her to hopefully put the idea out of her head, so perhaps it was just a fleeting moment, one that could be forgotten. Then he remembered her blazing eyes and how she was really convinced that he loved her in return. He couldn’t make up his mind and decided to give it some more thought before bringing it up to his wife.

Life for Tim and Gwen Davis couldn’t have been better. Their daughter Shannon had grown into a fine young girl and was the spitting image of her mom (thankfully). Tim and Gwen had also been blessed with twins, a boy and girl who were now mobile toddlers keeping the parents quite busy with their curious antics. Tim felt like he was in a dream. He couldn’t imagine his life being any better.

Bumping into his old flame Rachel was fate, Anthony felt. He had a very good feeling about her advice to meet with Ernest Wintersmith, owner of the Ye Olde English Tea Shop. The whole ride home he smiled with relief that his problematic marriage may be on the mend.

Some months went by while Anthony pondered the problems of his marriage. He still couldn’t understand why Monica was so unhappy, so he continued to work late and although he tried to help more with the children, Monica still felt the loneliness she had felt all along. Being pregnant didn’t help either regarding her emotions. She would find herself lashing out at Anthony for the slightest reasons and although it released her frustrations, she knew it wouldn’t help their situation. The arguments only created a larger wedge between them.

Many months had passed and Laci still had not revealed her feelings to Lee. Too much had taken place in that time for her to feel comfortable verbalizing it. When she was certain that Lee would reciprocate the feelings is when she would share with him how she felt. But still, through the many months that had gone by Laci was sure her love only grew deeper for him.

After the talk he had had with his brother Tim, Anthony couldn’t go home. He drove around for a while and decided to stop at the club across the street from his restaurant. He felt the need for a beverage before going home. He didn’t usually go to the Lu Lu Lounge, but it looked pretty quiet and he needed some time to think at a place where he wouldn’t bump into anyone he knew. As he walked in the music was loud and the atmosphere was dark. He could remain anonymous and clear his head. He sat at the bar and ordered a drink and just sat quietly thinking over the conversation that had taken place earlier.

Within a month Gwen was pregnant and both she and Tim were as excited as any couple could be. Gwen had taken maternity leave for the last few remaining months and Tim was going to take paternity leave as soon as the baby was born. “Battle of the bands” had already found a replacement for him and everything was neatly planned out.

Life was going very quickly for Erin and Lee. Kate had grown into a toddler with the help of Laci the nanny. She was instrumental in the help to raise Kate. She also helped with housework and became a companion to Erin and Lee. With their long hours at work they hardly had time to see each other and when they did have time, they were usually doing research for work or were tired from the long hours.
